2004 was the first complete year of the Wilderness Guardians, and the year in which RuneScape 2 replaced RuneScape Classic as the flagship game of Jagex.

Summary

WG had gained over 100 members by January of 2004, and for the majority of the year WG's main focus was on PK Trips ("Raids") in RuneScape 2 (which had been released in March). They did encounter significant issues as a result of their PvP activity - the clan developed rivalries with Anarchy and Fear, and the first exodus (The Synergy) was formed by ex-member Eragon Cd. Fear and Syn would later ally with WG. The clan also implemented its first requirements of 60+ combat to try and improve member quality and standards. In late 2004, after being insulted by the Rune Outlaws, WG declared their first war - however the fight was crashed by the Knights of Death, and no victor was decided.

List of Events

February

  • February 4 - WG's first clan website was fully constructed. Features included a message board, chat room, private message system, games, and miscellaneous documentation.[1]
  • February 20 - WG recruited their 100th member, and planned an in-game party to celebrate.[1]

March

  • March 10 - WG held an in-game party to celebrate reaching 100 members. It was considered very successful, apart from one player who brought telegrabs - but WG gained a few new recruits as well.[1]
  • March 15 - Rick Hamm replaced Sum41xx as the second Co-Leader of WG, and Docster was made 3rd-in-Command at Rick's request.[1]
  • March 29 - RuneScape 2: the new game was launched[4], and WG began the transition over from RuneScape Classic, losing only a few members in the process.[1]

April

May

  • May 9 - The May event calendar commenced: events included a Fishing Trawler game, a birthday party, a duelling contest, a photo contest, and a fire fest.[6]
  • Unknown - His Lordship began processing membership applications via a form on the clan website.[1]
  • May 17 - Lord Xin and Rick Hamm were appointed official Co-Leaders of WG, and an in-game ceremony was held.[1]
  • May 21 - WG reached 100 members for the second time (after inactive members had been removed in a past activity sweep).[1]
  • May 29 - WG's first PK trip with over 25 members attending was held.[1]
  • Unknown - WG member Falco307 bribed his way to a high rank, and attempted a mutiny by trying to convince the clan that he was the new new leader. The coup failed, and Falco and his accomplice Jedi Rin were banned - the first bannings in WG history.[1]

June

  • June 5 - WG's first requirements were set: new members would need a combat level of 60+ to join.[1]
  • June 15 - WG conducted an inactivity sweep, reducing the clan to around 60 members - and His Lordship began a recruitment campaign to try and replenish the numbers.[1]
  • June 20 - His Lordship held talks with diplomat Cajun Sabre in order to strengthen the bond between WG and their allies The Sabres.[1]
  • June 21 - WG started hosting their first PK trips in P2P worlds, and the first photo album was published on the clan website.[1]
  • June 23 - WG reached 100 members for the third time (after inactive members had been removed in past activity sweeps).[1]

July

  • July 3 - WG encountered Anarchy on a PK trip for the first time, and His Lordship and other staff members were killed.[1]
  • July 10 - Anarchy "ruined" a WG PK trip for the second time. His Lordship and Rick Hamm, with the support of The Sabres, declared war on Anarchy, but they refused to fight.[1]
  • July 16 - Plans for a major update to the FrontPage website were drawn up.[1]
  • July 20 (or 30)[7] - WG switched from the S7 forums to the S4 forums, and was reduced to around 60 active members in the process - but structural changes such as forum ranks and the "Clan Production" system were also implemented.[1]
  • July 25 - His Lordship began work on a major update to the FrontPage website, which would not be completed until November 20th.[8]
  • July 29 - Ex-Anarchy member tibberman wrote an insultive post about WG on the Rune Village fansite. Contrary to his aim of ridiculing WG, many other clans approached WG to discuss politics and alliances as a direct result.[9]
  • July 29 - The first PK trip with over 35 members present was held.[1]

August

  • August 2 - Eragon Cd and around 10 other members left WG to found The Synergy - the first exodus of WG.[10]
  • August 5 - WG formed an alliance with the RS Warriors(?), and His Lordship completed and published the completed Clan Thesis to the clan website.[8]
  • August 12 - WG re-opened applications for new members (which were presumably closed while the website was being updated).[8]

September

  • September 4 - Rick Hamm deleted the entire contents of the S4 forums and His Lordship's forum account, believing that His Lordship was responsible for hacking The Synergy's forums.[11]
